Founded in 1942, The Langley School is an independent coed day school educating more than 490 students in preschool through eighth grade. The school strives to embrace the unique qualities of every child through an engaging program of rigorous academics, fine arts, athletics, service learning, and a 7:1 student/teacher ratio. By nurturing, supporting, and academically challenging our students, our inclusive community builds quietly confident, independent thinkers who flourish as learners and individuals.

Lower School Building

Focusing on the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child, Langley’s Primary School provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for students ages 3-5 in preschool, junior kindergarten, and kindergarten. For students in grades 1-5, Langley’s Lower School offers a challenging, developmentally appropriate academic program. Homeroom teachers work collaboratively with special subject teachers to create integrated lessons that develop creativity and problem-solving abilities.

With small class sizes, ample student leadership opportunities, and a wide variety of subject areas to explore, Langley Middle School students in grades 6-8 become confident, inquisitive thinkers who are able to express their opinions. A wide variety of electives, music ensembles, dramatic productions, and sports options round out the Middle School experience. Graduates leave Langley as self-confident, responsible citizens who are ready to face the challenges of high school and beyond.

Frequent field trips throughout the year, including overnight trips for students in grades 5-8, enhance the curriculum and give students of all ages hands-on learning opportunities, while numerous service learning activities help students develop a sense of social responsibility. Langley is a founding member of the Capital Athletic Conference and offers team sports at the varsity and junior varsity levels in soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, softball, and tennis for students in grades 5-8, along with annual cross country and track and field meets.

The Langley School is located on a 9.2-acre campus in McLean, VA. The school’s facilities include an artificial turf athletic field, an arts center, a 20,000-volume library, science and computer labs, a creative media studio featuring green screen technology, and a 23,350 square-foot athletic center with two gyms. A new Middle School facility is scheduled to open in 2014. Bus transportation and an extended day program are available.
